Ferryl Maughn was born in Kansas City, Kansas in 1979 where his father worked at a government laboratory dedicated to agricultural research. Maughn graduated at the top of his high school class in 1996 and received a scholarship to attend Columbia University in New York City. After completing his studies in nuclear morphology he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he received his doctorate in physics. His thesis was an analysis of the theoretical work of Nikola Tesla with an emphasis on wave theory.
Halfway through his degree he met Amelie Preston-Hales, nicknamed Amy, and the two began dating. Amelie was the daughter of chemical magnate Ian Preston-Hales and the sole benefactor of his considerable legacy when her father died of natural causes in 2002. In 2003 Ferryl and Amy were married and took up residence in a brownstone on Manhattan's Upper West side. After graduating from MIT Maughn was recruited by HyperLabs, one of the world's most prestigious and secretive private laboratories. Maughn distinguished himself there by making considerable advances in wave theory, founding theTesla Wave Lab in 2007. He shared the Nobel Prize for physics in 2008 with brothers Drs. Theo and Huge Thanatos, Ph.D.
Amy was killed in an explosion intended for Ferryl Maughn in 2011. Maughn was a luminary in his field and published in a variety of science journals until he was killed in the same explosion that took the life of his wife. The perpetrators have never been found.
